On the morning of April 10, 1912, the bustle of the port of Southampton would periodically be interrupted by the deep blasts of the Titanic‘s steam whistles. The whistles were pitched at C”’–three octaves below middle “c”–and, in theory and under ideal conditions, could be heard for as much as ten miles. You can listen to the actual sound of one the Titanic‘s whistles–the voice of the Titanic–here: Titanic whistle.
